Super Tomcats are Super Readers!
Our reading challenge has gotten off to a great start!  Remember, our goal is to read over 1,000,000 minutes by the end of December.  We are currently in Week 5 of our challenge.  So far our Tomcats have read 97, 149 minutes!  We have earned one super power for our Tomcat and we are super close to earning another one!  Remember to read for 20 minutes every night to help us meet our goal!  Great job Super Tomcats!

National Young Readers Week!
Hundreds of schools across the country celebrate reading by participating in National Young Readers Week each year. This is an annual event that was co-founded in 1989 by Pizza Hut® and the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress.  On Tuesday, November 10, Tyler Elementary will be hosting guest readers.  Every classroom will be visited by a guest reader on this day to celebrate and share in the joy of reading!  Students are encouraged to bring in their favorite book on this day to share with their class and their guest reader.

If you would like to particpate in this event by being a guest reader please contact Mrs. Takata at takatalc@pwcs.edu

For more information about National Young Readers Week go to http://www.bookitprogram.com/Teachers/nyrd.asp.

Don't Forget!
Thank you so much for visiting Mrs. Shaver and Mrs. Takata in the reading room over the summer!  We were so glad that so many of you came to check out books.  If you have not done so already, be sure to stop by and return your books to Mrs. Takata.  Thank you so much to those Tyler families who have already returned their books!  Keep reading!

Family Literacy Night!
Family Literacy Night was a huge success!  We had a wonderful turn out of parents and students and families to celebrate and honor those students who completed their summer reading challenge.  We hope to make this an annual event so if you didn't complete your summer reading challenge this year be sure to make that a goal for next year!  Our next Family Literacy Night will be held on Wednesday, January 13.  Mark your calendars and continue to check the website for details!
